Strep throat is an inflammation triggering swollen and scratchy throat. If left unchecked, it may lead to problems including rheumatic fever or kidney inflammation. Strep throat is most frequent in infants, but impacts people of all ages. If you have irritating strep throat signs or symptoms, contact Nolan RidgeCourt Medical Centre for assessment.
What are strep throat symptoms?
- Strep throat signs include:
- Throat discomfort that normally occurs rapidly
- Awful swallowing
- Red and bloated tonsils containing pus or white spots.
- Tender, bloated neck lymph nodes
- Body aches
You may even find tiny red spots under your mouth’s roof.
What triggers stretch throat?
Strep throat is triggered by Streptococcus pyogenes or A streptococcus. This form of bacteria is extremely infectious and can propagate by airborne droplets whenever an infected individual sneezes or coughs, or exchanged food or beverages.
You may also contract bacteria from a doorknob or other surface and move them on to your mouth, eyes, or nose. In certain circumstances, strep bacteria can spread to tonsils, sinuses, skin, blood, and middle ear.
Why is the throat treated?
Dr. Ejeckam may prescribe medicine to ease the symptoms and avoid complications after diagnosing strep throat with a physical exam and any required tests such as a rapid antigen test or throat culture to swab a bacteria sample.
Oral antibiotics will also cure strep throat, and you or your child may not be infectious until around 24 hours of starting care. Dr. Ejeckam can also recommend other treatments to improve your wellbeing, such as pain relievers, and healthier lifestyle improvements such as diet and stress control.
It’s helpful to wipe your hands and close your mouth and nose anytime you cough or sneeze. Teach your kids the same. You should even stop exchanging personal things like glasses and utensils. Wash your dishes in steam, soapy or dishwasher.
